I decided to start this blog so I could share with everyone my goals, struggles and accomplishments as I set off to lose 80 pounds in 6 months. I decided about 2 months ago that I wanted to lose weight; I looked in the mirror and was very unhappy with myself. I ate like shit, I smoke a pack of cigarettes a day and I drank almost everyday. Don't get me wrong, I still love an ice cold beer everyday after work...only now it's a Mich Ultra. I have always been a big guy. I'm 6 feet tall and I weigh 289 pounds. My ideal weight is 220 pounds. When I was in High School I played Football, I was an offensive lineman, so I was encouraged to be big and strong. I worked out everyday, but all I did was lift weights. So I was actually gaining weight. I weighed about 300 pounds and I still do (up until this week.) So now I have commited myself to being Healthy! Everything else in my life is awesome! I have a wonderful wife, a great family and some of the best friends that a person could wish for. I attend a wonderful church and have accepted Jesus into my heart and have become a better person for it. But something has been missing. And I finally realized it, I was unhealthy and going to die at a young age. I couldn't walk up the stairs at my house without gasping for air. Something had to change! I told Sarah, my beautiful wife, that I was joining the YMCA by my work and was going to go 5 times a week every morning. She is fully commited to this as well, sadly her job makes it harder for her to make it to the gym, but we talk together every night and we are both eating healthy. As soon as my Wii is repaired, we can begin Wii Fit together. I have gone to the gym every morning this week. I work out for 2 hours every morning. I start with 30 minutes on the Bike, then I do 30 minutes on the Elliptical and finish it up with a 30 minute walk ( to cool down.) I do 20 minutes of weight training. Monday, Wednesday and Friday is arms and chest. And Tuesday and Thursday is legs and back. I usually swim every day as well. I'm going to hold off on that until I get some goggles, the chlorine in the pool really irritated my eyes. I tried the sauna on Tuesday and it was miserable...NEVER DOING THAT AGAIN!
Today was a great workout! I weighed in at 289. I don't know what a healthy amount of weight to lose a day is, the more I lose the better! I drink lots of water everyday, I eat healthy meals and snacks everyday. And NO SUGAR! So I think I have a good regiment worked out here, but I am open to suggestions. Quitting smoking is hard, but I know the payoff will be great! I feel better and better everyday. I'm sleeping better, I can breathe easier and my self esteem is beginning to rise.
